Aluminium Fencing Might Not Be the Best Option
Although many properties are good candidates, in some cases aluminium may be less suited:
- If maximum privacy is required (for example, backyards abutting busy streets, or for noise reduction), solid fences like wood panels or masonry walls might perform better. Aluminium slats leave gaps (air, visibility) that may not suit privacy needs.
- For very high security (e.g. industrial areas requiring forced entry resistance), thicker steel or reinforced fencing may be necessary.
- In harsh chemical environments (industrial zones with corrosive chemicals, salt spray etc.), special coatings are needed; aluminium may still degrade if coatings fail.
- Budget constraints: if the available budget is small, the initial cost of aluminium may be prohibitive compared to wood or chain-link.
- For certain aesthetic preferences: rustic woods, natural aging, traditional craftsmanship materials may appeal more to some people.
Cost Breakdown & Financial Implications
Though KD Fence & Deck does not provide exact prices on the site (at least in the version accessed), one can infer what contributes to cost:
- Materials: The grade of aluminium, type of finish (powder coating, paint), thickness of posts, decorative elements, gates.
- Site Preparation: Clearing, leveling, marking layout. Difficult terrain adds cost.
- Labor: Post setting (digging, concrete work), panel installation, gate fitting. Gate work usually more labour-intensive.
- Customization / Extras: Decorative tops, caps, special gates, privacy panels, ornamental elements increase cost.
- Compliance / Permits: If local codes require special features (e.g. for pool fencing), permit fees, or adding latches, climbing deterrents etc., can add to cost.
In return, cost savings over time can occur via reduced maintenance, longevity, less frequent replacement, less repainting / rust treatment, etc. These savings must be weighed against initial investment. For many buyers, aluminium fencing is cost-effective over, say, 10-20 years.
