Purpose of Replacing the Oil Filter

Purpose of Replacing the Oil Filter

When the engine is running, engine oil circulates among the moving parts (such as the crankshaft, camshaft, piston and cylinder liner), playing a role in lubrication, cooling and cleaning. However, during operation, impurities such as metal shavings, carbon deposits, gum and dust will be produced. The function of the oil filter is to filter out these impurities.

If the filter element is not replaced regularly, it will get clogged, leading to a decline in filtration efficiency. Even bypass (the bypass valve opens), and the unfiltered dirty engine oil will continue to circulate within the engine, accelerating the wear of various components. In severe cases, it may cause catastrophic failures such as cylinder pulling and bearing seizure.
