Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been named as the new Pope and will become Francis' successor following two days of voting inside the Sistine Chapel.
His name was announced after cardinal Mamberti uttered the words 'Habemus papam!' Latin for 'We have a pope!' from the loggia of St. Peter's Basilica. Cardinal Prevost has taken the name Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV - addressed the crowd in St. Peter's Square. His first words were 'peace be with you all'.
Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is considered a reformer but might be seen by some as too young for his position as pontiff at the age of 69.
