AGSI said the use of the national flag on his coffin at his funeral at the weekend was "outrageous", adding: "It is a move that completely undermines the Garda organisation and our work protecting the citizens of this State." Commissioner Harris today shook hands with Det Gda McCabe's son, Limerick Sergeant John McCabe, at the AGSI conference in Westport, Mayo. Harris said: "I know the hurt that this will represent for the family and it's beyond our understanding why the national flag is placed on the coffin for such an individual. "It is regrettable that in effect the national flag is being abused and disrespected in this way."
