If the opportunity arose for any of the factions to kill one of their enemies there’s no doubt they would take it.“There are people on the Kinahan side in prison but when they get out it won’t be long before they would become targets.”Former senior officer Leahy added: “They know they will be targets for the rest of their lives because this is the life that they chose to live. This is the reality when someone gets involved in organised crime.“People also should remember that a truce was in place and money paid to settle any differences but this agreement was broken. I also can’t see how Gerry Hutch wouldn’t be the focus of international investigation considering the comments that were made about him during his trial.“There’s no doubt the Hutch organisation continues to pose a threat — especially in Ireland — and I can’t see too many people crossing them because of their involvement in serious crime over the decades.“Just because no one has been killed in the feud since 2018 means that they stop what they have been doing for years.”Life in the sunAt present, The Monk continues to enjoy his life in the sun in Lanzarote. Since he walked free from court in April 2023, he has been spotted going for strolls in Clontarf, Dublin, and enjoying drinks at his holiday hideaway. He also returned to Ireland to attend an exhibition by artist Mike O’Donnell that featured his portrait. We also published exclusive images of Hutch enjoying a drink in Lanzarote before he was finally arrested in connection with the Regency Hotel attack.Staged photosBut there are some in the Gardai who believe a number of the snaps “may have been staged”. One source told us: “The images of Gerry Hutch enjoying a beer in Lanzarote suit his agenda. He is trying to paint a picture of leading a normal life while at the same time his gang remains heavily involved in organised crime.”Before The Monk’s release, Hutch associate James Gately and his nephew Patrick Hutch were also photographed enjoying a coffee in the heart of Dublin.Patrick also walked free after being accused of Byrne’s Regency Hotel murder when charges against him were dropped in 2019.Hideout in DubaiAs Hutch enjoys his freedom, his Kinahan enemies are in hiding in Dubai. At present, Daniel Kinahan is the focus of a major file from the GNDOCB which is currently being examined by the DPP.Gardai are also seeking to charge him over the murder of The Monk’s brother Eddie after they also sent a file to the DPP.His right-hand man Sean McGovern is wanted over the murder of Noel ‘Duck Egg’ Kirwan while his brother Christopher and dad Christy each have a $5m bounty on their heads by the US.6Most wanted mobster Daniel KinahanCredit: Not known, clear with picture desk6Court sketch of Gerry Hutch during the the Regency trialCredit: PA:Press Association6Before The Monk’s release, Hutch associate James Gately and Patrick Hutch were photographed enjoying a coffee in the heart of Dublin
