Gardai warned to ban hospital visitors for Kinahan prisoner over attack fears

GARDAI were warned not to allow any visitors in to see a Kinahan enforcer in hospital — over fears he could be targeted by the Hutch gang.Trevor Byrne was rushed from Mountjoy Prison to Dublin’s Mater Hospital on Sunday, April 21, after taking a concoction of drugs.4Hitman Trevor Byrne was kept under watch by cops at the Mater Hospital4Gang supremo Daniel KinahanThe prison received a number of calls inquiring about Byrne when news emerged.This raised concerns for gardai, even though no prisoner is allowed visits when escorted to hospital for treatment.Cops, who were supporting prison officers keeping Byrne under watch in the Mater, were warned no one other than those working there should be allowed access.They were reminded there is an increased threat on Byrne’s life due to his life-long association with gangland crime.READ MORE IRISH NEWSThe senior Kinahan cartel associate, 43, is serving 17 and a half years over an armed robbery and separate firearms offences.He also remains under investigation for the feud murder of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch’s older brother Eddie in February 2016.A source said: “Byrne is a serious criminal who will always remain under threat due to his activities at the top tier of organised crime in Ireland, particularly associates of the Hutch gang.“Concerns were raised last week about inquiries being made about him after it emerged in the media he was in hospital.MOST READ ON THE IRISH SUN"So the gardai were alerted and reminded to be extra vigilant because of who he was.” It is understood Byrne returned to prison custody last week.However he now faces disciplinary action after he attacked prison officers from his hospital bed.Byrne is a notorious criminal from Finglas, northwest Dublin, and worked as an enforcer for Daniel Kinahan’s mob.He fled the country in 2016 after being warned by the gardai about a credible threat on his life.It is believed he spent time in Spain while cops caught and convicted senior Kinahan figures.But after returning in 2019, Byrne was arrested in a cabin at the back of a house in Clondalkin.Cops found he had a firearm under a couch he had been sitting on. He had said he had it to protect himself from the threat on his life.Byrne is housed with a number of other Kinahan gang members.
