Kinahan quartermaster ‘Mr Nobody’ has cut ties with mob after 'change of heart'

THE man once at the centre of the Kinahan cartel’s logistics has claimed he has cut all ties with the mob.Declan “Mr Nobody” Brady’s sentencing over his involvement in the murder of innocent Noel “Duck Egg” Kirwan in 2016 heard that he wants to revert back to his life before he got involved in gangland crime for money.4Declan “Mr Nobody” Brady has claimed he has cut all ties with the mob4Brady was up for sentencing over his involvement in the murder of innocent Noel “Duck Egg” Kirwan in 2016But the 58-year-old, who was a trusted associate of Kinahan No2 Thomas “Bomber” Kavanagh, is not willing to get in the stand.He fears, the court heard, that this could lead to recriminations and consequences for him and those close to him.Already locked up serving lengthy sentences for possession of firearms on behalf of the cartel and money laundering, the former haulage driver previously pleaded guilty to facilitating a criminal organisation to murder grandfather Kirwan.At a sitting of the Special Criminal Court today, a probation report was handed in on Brady’s behalf.Read more on Kinahan CartelIt heard from his defence counsel Michael O’Higgins SC who argued for his client to be given a largely suspended sentence in respect of this offence.The court heard that since being in custody - following his arrest in January 2017 after the Greenogue arms bust by gardai - Brady has had a “significant” change of heart.Brady is claimed to be ready to “demonstrate” this through his acts.Mr O’Higgins said his client is an “untypical” person to become involved in these offences.Most read in The Irish SunBrady left school at 14, worked with his father in the haulage business before getting his own licence and running his own business.The court heard he had an accident and this coincided with the effects of the financial crash.He wed at the age of 20, but his marriage subsequently broke down and he had a baby with another woman, Erika Lukacs, and the child has a serious underlying medical condition.Mr O’Higgins said having worked all of his life, in his late 30s or early 40s, he became involved with the gang for money, which was also partly down to a gambling issue.But he added: “He has now completely broken all connections with any aligned persons in prison.”Life away from crimeUpon release, he would live with his ex-wife who would allow him reside in her home and would work with his son-in-law in construction.
