Wayne Rooney makes Soccer Aid history as Man United legend, 39, rolls back the years by scoring past Edwin van der Sar.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney scored in front of the Stretford End just four minutes into Sunday's Soccer Aid charity match at Old Trafford.

Rooney, 39, playing for England against a World XI, fired home from 14 yards after ex-United team-mate Edwin van der Sar had failed to gather a cross.

Carlos Tevez has all four goals for the World XI nn his return to Old Trafford.

The world’s biggest charity football match takes centre stage once again tonight as Soccer Aid returns to Old Trafford. It’s the 14th edition of the star-studded game between England and a World XI held to raise millions for UNICEF, heading back to the home of Manchester United after last year’s stint at Stamford Bridge. 2024 proved to be a memorable occasion for England, who ended their six-year wait for victory after a 6-3 thriller in west London.

Another triumph this evening would see England pull level with the World XI on overall titles with seven each. Jill Scott captains a team featuring past professionals such as Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, plus celebrities including Bella Ramsey, Louis Tomlinson, Roman Kemp and Steven Bartlett, presided over by a management team that now contains Tom Hiddleston as well as Tyson Fury, Robbie Williams, David James, Vicky McClure and Harry Redknapp.

The World XI can call on past stars like Rivaldo, Carlos Tevez, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar and Leonardo Bonucci, with Peter Schmeichel and Robbie Keane overseeing a squad that also contains Tony Bellew, Richard Gadd, Dermot Kennedy and Maisie Adam. Follow Soccer Aid live below!
