#mercedesbenz has just reinvented the luxury van. This is the all-new
#Mercedes Benz
#VLE, the first model built on Mercedes’ completely new VAN.EA electric architecture, and the biggest reset for the V-Class lineage since the original launched nearly three decades ago. But Mercedes isn’t positioning the VLE as just another MPV. Instead, they’re calling it something far more ambitious: a Grand Limousine.
The VLE arrives with a 115kWh battery, a new 800-volt electrical architecture, and DC charging speeds of up to 315kW, allowing up to 320km of WLTP range to be added in just 15 minutes. Total WLTP range climbs to over 700km in the VLE 300 configuration — effectively doubling what the previous electric EQV could achieve.
Performance has also taken a huge step forward. The range starts with the VLE 300, producing around 268hp and 435Nm, while the VLE 400 4MATIC adds a second motor for all-wheel drive and boosts output to over 400hp, dropping the 0-100km/h time to 6.5 seconds — remarkable for a luxury van of this size.
But the VLE isn’t just about power and range. Mercedes has engineered the new platform for limousine-level comfort, with AIRMATIC air suspension, rear-axle steering with up to seven degrees of angle, and an exceptionally stiff bodyshell designed to minimise noise and vibration on long journeys. Combined with extensive acoustic insulation and laminated glass throughout the cabin, Mercedes is aiming for genuine long-distance luxury travel rather than just van practicality.
Inside, the VLE takes things even further. An MBUX Superscreen spans the dashboard with three displays, while passengers in the rear can enjoy the new MBUX Rear Space Experience, centred around a massive 31-inch 8K panoramic cinema display that deploys from the roof. Combined with a 22-speaker Burmester 3D surround system with Dolby Atmos, Mercedes is essentially turning the rear cabin into a mobile cinema or executive lounge.
And seating has clearly been designed with that limousine philosophy in mind. Depending on configuration, the VLE can seat between five and eight passengers, with the flagship Grand Comfort seats offering reclining functions, massage, calf support, and integrated wireless charging. Even the centre consoles come in three different layouts, ranging from simple storage solutions to fully equipped luxury units with cooled compartments, UV sterilisation and AIR-BALANCE fragrance systems.
In this video we’ll cover:
- The history of the V-Class lineage, from the original W638 to the outgoing EQV
- How the new VAN.EA platform completely resets Mercedes’ van architecture
- The electric drivetrain technology, battery design and efficiency improvements
- The huge leap in range, charging speed and performance
- The design differences across Standard, AMG Line, AMG Line Plus and Exclusive trims
- The new MBUX Superscreen and Rear Space Experience cinema display
- The different seat configurations and luxury options available inside the VLE
- And what Mercedes is planning above this model in the future, including the rumoured VLS flagship.
Mercedes has already hinted at a future model sitting above this van — potentially previewed by the Vision V concept — which could bring Maybach-level luxury and limousine seating to the van world for the first time. And if the VLE is anything to go by, the era of the luxury grand limousine van has only just begun!
