Lidl announces opening date of €7m Claregalway store
Lidl Ireland has announced the opening date of its new €7m Claregalway store.
In February, the chain announced it is planning to invest €600m to open 35 new stores and a regional distribution centre over the next five years.
The supermarket giant will also spend €200m on the new distribution centre in Cork as its seeks to improve its logistical infrastructure in the south and south-east regions.
The opening of the Claregalway store, which is part of that planned expansion, will bring the retailer’s footprint to 11 outlets in Galway.
The new store, which will create 30 jobs, will open its doors on Thursday 22 May at 8am.
Local Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) player and Lidl ambassador Nicola Ward has been lined up to cut the ribbon.
The first ten customers will receive complimentary vouchers.
The new store is located on a newly developed greenfield site beside the N83, in the centre of the village.
It features state-of-the-art facilities, including a spacious shop floor with wide aisles, self-service checkouts, long tills, and an off-licence, as well as an in-store bakery, offering fresh-baked goods every day.
The new store is its 186th Republic of Ireland outlet, and its 228th on the island of Ireland.

Under the store's ‘A Better Tomorrow,’ policy, the chain has invested €12m in rolling out solar PV panels across its network.
Claregalway will be the retailer’s 100th store with a solar PV system that will generate more than 20% of the building’s energy requirements.
