No 1 typhoon signal in Hong Kong to remain in force until 8pm on Sunday

New users who download our updated app get a seven-day free trial.The No 1 typhoon signal will remain in force in Hong Kong at least until noon on Sunday, while the weather forecaster will assess the need to upgrade it to No 3 later in the day.The Hong Kong Observatory said the tropical depression would remain at least 600 kilometres (373 miles) from the city on Sunday morning.“Under the combined effect of the tropical depression and the ridge of high pressure over southeastern China, local winds are occasionally strong offshore and on high ground,” it said.“The need for issuing the No 3 strong wind signal thereafter depends on the distance between associated strong winds and the Pearl River Delta, and the change in local winds.”Rainbands associated with the tropical depression were expected to affect the coastal areas of Guangdong on Sunday. There will be occasional squally showers with thunderstorms in Hong Kong.
