Mother drugged three children with Nyquil and tried to drown them in pond of sprawling $3million Texas mansion, cops say

A mother allegedly tried to drown her three children in a pond on their sprawling Texas estate before their father called 911, police have revealed.

Sheriff's deputies descended on the $3million Liberty County mansion early Monday morning after Domingo Quintana called to report the attempted drowning, KPRC reports.

Quintana, 61, told investigators his 39-year-old wife 'poisoned his children with NyQuil and attempted to drown them'.

The three children were found near the water alongside their father. Their mother remained in the water.

She and her 11-year-old daughter were both unconscious and airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The other siblings, a six-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl, were transported to the hospital alert and conscious. They were in stable condition as of Tuesday.

Quintana was later booked into Liberty County Jail on Tuesday for an unrelated charge of animal cruelty.

Capt. David Meyers says police do not have a 'specific focus on either parent' and are looking into both Quintana and his wife as they carry out their investigation.

'It was bizarre and breathtaking to see what deputies and investigators faced upon arriving at the scene,' Meyers said during a press conference Tuesday.

'Any time children are involved, it's heart‑wrenching for all of us in law enforcement. The best thing we can do now is pray for the children and their parents.'

The incident occurred just before 6am Monday at the family's Rancho Monte Carmelo estate, which realty websites estimate is worth just over $3million.

Quintana called 911 after hearing screams and rescuing his children from the water, according to KHOU.

Investigators reportedly found medication bottles near the scene and said they planned to test the children for traces of drugs or alcohol

A dive team also searched the pond for evidence they believe may be at the bottom.

The sheriff's office says the children and mother are safe, but declined to give KHOU further details about their whereabouts or conditions.

All three children have been placed in the care of Child Protective Services (CPS) and will soon be placed in foster care.

Quintana was arrested Monday night and booked Tuesday on the animal cruelty charge, but it is unclear if he remains in custody. As of Wednesday morning he was not named on the jail's inmate roster.

Court records show Quintana has been named in multiple civil lawsuits, including complaints that allege he owes tens of thousands of dollars in property taxes in Liberty County.

He has also been accused of failing to pay contractors hundreds of thousands of dollars in labor costs for their work on Rancho Monte Carmelo.

The Quintana family has lived at Rancho Monte Carmelo since 2017, The Vindicator newspaper reports.

The children were not enrolled in school with Meyers telling the media they had not been enrolled 'for a little bit'.

Additional records show there was at least one previous 911 call for an alleged assault at the residence, though it is unclear if that case involved the Quintana family.

CPS has not previously responded to the home.

Daily Mail has approached the Liberty County Sheriff's Office for more information.
