Iranian footballer reverses visa choice

One of the Iranian Football players who chose to stay in Australia reversed her Visa choice after speaking to some members of the team who had already left.

Seven members of Iran's women's football team have been granted humanitarian visas by Australia amid fears they could face persecution if they return home.

One player and a staff member sought asylum at Brisbane Airport, while five others were secretly granted visas.

The group will now begin the process towards permanent residency in Australia, with access to settlement services and support.

Tensions arose at Sydney Airport as protesters pleaded for the players to seek asylum, and one player initially delayed boarding before the rest of the team departed for Iran via Kuala Lumpur.
