US-Israel war on Iran intensifies as Trump claims victory, questions grow over conflict’s cost
US President Donald Trump says the war with Iran has been a success, even as fighting continues and American casualties mount. The White House insists the military campaign must go on until Iran’s missile and drone capabilities are eliminated and the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
The conflict has entered its second week, with US forces deploying advanced weapons systems and tens of thousands of troops across the Middle East. Analysts say the war is also becoming a testing ground for new technologies, including drones, precision missiles and artificial intelligence.
But critics warn that military superiority may not guarantee victory. Iran continues to exert pressure by threatening global energy supplies and disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for the world’s oil trade.
Meanwhile, members of the US Congress are demanding answers about the legal justification for the war and its long-term objectives.
Al Jazeera’s special coverage from Washington, DC, examining the political, military, and economic stakes of the conflict.
