West Bengal: 90 Lakh Names Removed From Voter List Under Special Intensive Revision | Race To Power

The Election Commission of India has deleted a total of 90.66 lakh voter names in West Bengal during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. According to the latest data, 58.2 lakh names were removed during the first phase of the SIR in December 2025. An additional 5.46 lakh names were deleted between the draft and final lists released in February 2026. In the most recent second phase, which concluded today, judicial officers adjudicated over 60 lakh cases, resulting in the deletion of another 27 lakh names. India Today correspondent Indrajeet Kundu reported that this unprecedented scale of deletion emerged following a high-stakes Supreme Court hearing regarding the process. The adjudication phase involved more than 700 judicial officers across the state. The total figure of 90.66 lakh deletions marks a significant update to the state's electoral rolls as the commission concludes the current phase of the intensive verification and purification drive.
