The man accused of trying to storm the ballroom at a White House journalists' dinner with guns and knives left writings calling for attacks on officials of Donald Trump's government, the president said on Sunday.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the suspect's family had raised concerns about him to police in Connecticut ahead of the event.
Meanwhile, Todd Blanche, acting leader of the US Justice Department, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that “it does appear that he did in fact set out to target folks who work in the administration, likely including the president”.
The suspect, identified by authorities as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, is believed to have purchased the two firearms he carried within the last couple of years, Blanche said.
He is not being cooperative and is expected to face multiple charges on Monday.
Allen's brother, had contacted New London Police Department in Connecticut warning that he wanted to target members of the Trump administration, according to the White House.
This sentiment was shown in a manifesto allegedly written by the suspect, according to the White House, which says Allen also shared anti-Trump and anti-Christian messages on his social media accounts.
