Ireland to score big as Euro 2028 set to generate nearly €450m for the economy

The estimated revenue across the UK and Ireland amounts to €4.1 billion, with Ireland on track to generate nearly €450m from its €94m investment.The benefits of the tournament on the Irish economy are significant as it will encourage job creation, tourism, and highlight Dublin’s potential when it comes to hosting major sports events. Ireland’s significant investment also includes €6.2m into social impact and community activity programmes.Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’ Donovan attended the official launch of Euro 2028 this Wednesday, with several more activation events taking place across the UK and Ireland. Following the launch, Mr O’Donovan stated “Ireland is ready to play its part in delivering a world-class tournament that will excite fans and energise communities across the country” and stressed the impact of the tournament on “jobs, tourism, and pride.”Minister of State with Responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy, Charlie McConalogue also voiced his excitement about this “landmark” tournament that represents a major step forward in Ireland’s sports standing internationally. “We are working with UEFA, the Football Associations and our government partners to ensure the tournament delivers a lasting legacy for football and encourages increased participation in the game across the country,” he said.“I believe in football as a powerful driver of positive social impact, and the host associations and government partners are committed to improving the health of the game and society for the long-term. In relation to economic benefits, hosting the tournament provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase Ireland and our world-class tourism and sport offerings to Europe and the wider world.”Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Ray McAdam reflected on the importance of this tournament for Dublin in particular as the city will welcome football fans from all across Europe to enjoy everything the capital has to offer.“The opportunity to host seven thrilling matches here will bring world-class football to our doorstep, but more than that, it will leave a lasting legacy for our communities — from stimulating local economic growth to fostering a renewed sense of pride and participation throughout Dublin,” he said.“In 2028, Dublin will pulse with the spirit of the game, igniting a festival of football that reflects the passion, energy, and unity that make our city truly unique.
