Celebratory gunfire breaks out in Beirut as Israel-Lebanon ceasefire comes into force

US President Donald Trump has announced a 10-day ceasefire after talks with the Lebanese president and the Israeli prime minister.

Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Thursday afternoon that the leaders agreed to a truce starting at 5pm EST, 10pm UK time.

Lebanese Prime Minister Joseph Aoun said he "welcomes" the announcement, "which is a central Lebanese demand we have pursued since the first day of the war, and was our primary goal in the Washington meeting on Tuesday".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on his part, said he had agreed to the ceasefire.
