Iran has denied holding talks with the US, so who is Trump actually negotiating with?
The president said his administration has been negotiating with Tehran "for a long time" and believes a deal is close. He referenced his threat to blow up Iranian power plants, which he has paused for another five days.
Trump had previously threatened to "obliterate" Iran's power plants if the Strait of Hormuz - through which around one-fifth of the world's oil passes - was not reopened by Monday 11.44pm (UK time), before he extended the deadline.
But Iran's parliament speaker said on Monday that "no negotiations" were held with the US, calling Trump's assertions "fake news".
Meanwhile, Keir Starmer has warned the country must not fall into the "false comfort" of thinking there would be "a quick and early end" to the war.
“I think all our focus and energy has to be in the swift de-escalation, but we’ve got to plan on the basis that it could go on for some time, and that’s the way in which we’ll plan this afternoon," he told the liaison committee.
