Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett will speak Thursday at the 2026 Supreme Court Fellows Program Annual Lecture at the Library of Congress.

Barrett, appointed to the high court by President Trump in 2020 during his first term, has been a key swing vote in consequential rulings.

Barrett sided with the majority in the Supreme Court’s ruling last month striking down President Trump’s tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

In July 2024, she issued a concurring opinion finding that Trump had broad immunity in carrying out official functions. And in 2022, she joined the five other conservative justices in overturning Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to obtain an abortion.

Barrett spoke in Sante Fe, N.M., over the weekend, where she was met with dozens of protesters.

“You need to have a judge that can withstand pressure from the outside and make decisions that are truly what the judge, in her best judgment, thinks are what the law requires,” she said.

Barrett is scheduled to speak at the Library of Congress at 3 p.m. EDT.
