Police confirm arrest in Witness D murder

Police believe they've made a breakthrough in the murder of Marius van der Merwe also known as Witness D at the Madlanga Commission. A suspect believed to be the one who allegedly shot and killed van der Merwe outside his Brakpan home in December 2025 was arrested in Johannesburg today. Van der Merwe, a former Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department reservist was shot and killed in a suspected assassination. He was gunned down in front of his family shortly after testifying about corruption and a murder cover-up involving high-ranking EMPD officials.
