Hurst, Texas — On January 16, 2026, a Hurst police officer pulled over Taneisha Thompson after allegedly clocking her vehicle speeding through a marked school zone. According to police, she was traveling significantly above the reduced limit put in place to protect students. After stopping her SUV, the officer approached the driver’s window, identified himself only as Cpl. Morgan, and requested her license and insurance. Thompson provided the documents, but the interaction became tense as Cpl. Brandon Morgan questioned her about the violation and prepared a citation.
The situation escalated when Cpl. Morgan returned to issue the ticket and Thompson refused to accept it. Authorities say she tossed the citation out of the window and declined repeated instructions to step out of the vehicle, instead asking for a supervisor. Officers then opened the car door and attempted to remove her, leading to a physical struggle that ended with Thompson being pulled from the vehicle, taken to the ground, and handcuffed as backup officers arrived. Thompson’s teenage son, who was inside the vehicle, can be heard pleading during the confrontation. She was taken into custody and later charged with offenses including resisting arrest.
The incident quickly drew national attention after Thompson shared cellphone footage online showing the physical takedown, prompting accusations of excessive force and racial bias from her legal team. Police officials maintain the arrest was justified, saying the viral clip did not capture the full sequence of events and that an internal review found officers acted within departmental policy. Thompson’s attorney disputes that conclusion, citing visible injuries and arguing the situation escalated unnecessarily. While the department says no disciplinary action was warranted, prosecutors are continuing to examine the case, and the possibility of civil litigation remains.
